Abstract

We investigate within the standard model the possibility that nonperturbative QCD effects determine the Fermi scale and electroweak symmetry breaking is a consequence of chiral symmetry breaking. In this scenario the ratio between the Fermi scale and the quark condensate 〈 ψψ〉 0 1 3 comes out inversely proportional to the Yukawa coupling of the strange quark, consistent with observation. The Higgs particle mass is predicted in the range of 200 keV.
