Abstract

AbstractIn this contribution, we address the computational treatment of transient diffusion problems with heterogeneous microstructures using first‐order homogenization. There, we treat two different cases, firstly, when the transient part at the microscale can be neglected due to the vanishingly small size of the representative volume element (RVE) and secondly, when no steady state is reached at the microscale. This is the case when dealing with a relaxed version of the scale separation condition. (© 2016 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
