On the Composition of Clay Minerals by X-ray Diffraction at B-10' Bore-hole in the Kushibayashi Landslide Area

Abstract

We examined the composition of clay minerals by X-ray diffraction at vertical bore-hole (B-10') in the Kushibayashi landslide area.As a result of the examination, the following matters were cleared.(1) Main clay minerals were montmorillonite, kaolin minerals and illite, and the peculiar clay minerals were not recognized in and around the slide layer.(2) In the composition of main clay minerals, kaolin minerals were surperior at the shallow layer, and mont morillonite was surperior at the slide layer(3) Near the slide layer detected by the internal strain meters, content of montmorillonite was more than seventy percent.
