Abstract

In this paper is introduced a set of three stress functions which is useful in solving three-dimensional elastostatics problems in general cylindrical coordinates and, in particular, non-axisymmetric problems in circular cylindrical coordinates. A proof of the completeness of the representation for cylindrical bodies is presented, with the effects of body force and temperature fields included. The relations between the stress functions and the displacements and stresses are given in general cylindrical coordinates and circular cylindrical coordinates and are compared with the analogous relations for the Papkovich-Neuber stress functions.
