Abstract

As a consequence of the important role human behavior plays in the teaching-learning process this process shows a great complexity. It is clear, however, that the process has many competitive aspects. This gives us the possibility for a mathematical treatment by means of the theory of games. Starting with an intuitive discussion the paper describes the components of the game representing the competitive situation. In the following the teacher and student strategy sets are introduced and the evaluation system and the payoff functions for the lecturers and students are considered. The existence of an optimum strategy is discussed. The final part is concerned with some simple results which show some consequences of the theory.
