Abstract

Abstract I. Introduction. Since the publication on “Cocto-precipitinogen and cocto-immunogen” by one of us, Torikata, in 1917 (1), the experiments have been repeated with various bacterial organisms by many investigators. But no one has yet repeated the experiments with regard to dysentery, except Boku (10), who successfully immunized rabbits with cocto-immunogen of the Shiga dysentery bacillus in order to obtain dysentery agglutinating serum. This was the reason that prompted us to undertake the present study. It is a well known fact that the dysentery vaccine or raw toxin is so extremely strong that it can not be used for immunizing human beings or laboratory animals, such as rabbits. Our primary object was to find out whether or not the cocto-immunogen can be used more advantageously to immunize rabbits and at the same time to test the value of the cocto-immunogen as such.
