The, Pik-Sin Abstract The color-magnitude diagrams of stars in several regions surrounding NGC 6530 and the surface densities of stars in this cluster and surrounding regions for several magnitude intervals show that the so-called "above-main-sequence" stars in NGC 6530 are not necessarily related to this cluster. Using a Wolf , one can ascertain that the total absorption of the dark cloud that serves as a backdrop to NGC 6530 i',s about 2.2 visual mag. In the light of these results, it appears that many of the stars found by Walker to l,ie above the main sequence in NGC 6530 may be highly reddened background stars of early spectral tyi e.
