Abstract

For the future application to TEXTOR and JET, the effectivity of a combined rf glow (RG) discharge in hydrogen for the release of impurities from SS (water, hydrocarbons, and carbon oxides) has been examined in a simulation vessel. The influence of parameters like wall temperature Tw, discharge current I GD , hydrogen pressure P 2 , pump speed S p , admixture of noble gases or CH 4, etc. has been measured. It was found that besides the CO and CH 4 release, deoxidation of the wall via water formation (important for the deoxidation of already decarburized surfaces) leads to a very large cleaning efficiency, provided the parameters are chosen properly.
