Abstract
Shock waves have been the subject of many investigations; of these, we only mention papers [1 to 5]. The present paper amplifies on the basic ideas proposed in [6] for the investigation of the structure of shock waves in a viscous gas. It appears that for a hypoelastic medium, within small strain accuracy, all discontinuous quantities inside a shock wave layer, vary in a similar manner. This circumstance permits the investigation of shock wave propagation in a hypoelstIc medium.
