Abstract

We examine the behavior of incommensurate atomic adlayers deposited on a heterogeneous substrate using static and Monte-Carlo techniques. In this case the use of periodic boundary conditions to simulate an infinite system, from a finite sample, is complicated because two different symmetries must be satisfied. This has been solved and results are presented. Results for Ar on graphite show that the periodic modulation of the adatom-substrate interaction is responsible for significant changes in the behavior of the system.
