Abstract

A model for strongly interacting particles is considered that is based on an extension of the nucleon form factor model to include all baryons and mesons. The strongly interacting particle model is founded on the assumption that 4-dimensional rotational invariance of K meson interactions in hypercharge space is the fundamental symmetry of strong interactions. The physical mechanism underlying the model is conjectured to be that the photon can be coupled to any elementary particle current only through bipion or tripion intermediate states. It is shown that this model destroys charge and hypercharge independence and mass degeneracy of the baryons. This result is caused by the fact that in the model, vector particles (photon or tripion) can couple indifferently with either a charge (or hypercharge) singlet or the third component of a charge (or hypercharge) triplet.
