Abstract

Multistability, or coexistence of multiple attractors, is a common and potentially dangerous property of all but the most trivial engineering systems. This paper discusses a numerical method for the analysis of basins of attractionsin systems that, due to the presence of friction, switches, or other intrinsic discontinuities, are described by discontinuous differential equations.
