Abstract

An exact solution of the problem of the scattering of a homogeneous plane wave by an infinitely conducting staircase lamellar grating is obtained which is valid provided that the incident light field is transverse magnetic and that certain constraints are imposed on the grating profile parameters. The results suggest that such a grating produces blaze effects which might be useful in spectroscopic applications.
