Abstract

AbstractAn excet and finite‐element analysis is used to predict the static bending and natural vibration response of rectangular plates laminated of composite material having different elastic properties depending upon whether the fiber‐direction strains are tensile or compressive. The analysis is based on a theory that accounts for anisotropy, bending‐stretching coupling, thickness shear deformation, and both coupling inertia und rotatory inertia. The finite‐element results are found to agree very closely with the exact closed‐form solutions in the case of a cross‐ply rectangular plate having simply supported edges and subjected to sinusoidally distributed normal‐pressure loading or temperature loading.
