Abstract

The method previously developed to establish the asymptotic equivalence of the microcanonical, the canonical, and the grand canonical formalism of classical statistical thermodynamics for real systems, is extended to include other ensembles, in particular the isothermal-isobaric (or pressure) ensemble. All results are obtained by allowing for volume variations in one direction only, but it is also shown that, in those ensembles where the volume is a parameter, the “one-dimensional” thermodynamic limits may be replaced by “three-dimensional” ones.
