Abstract

AbstractThe application of the names Cucubalus reflexus and Silene nocturna is revised and discussed while, for the name S. mutabilis, a specimen in LINN (Herb. Linnaeus) is designated as lectotype. It is concluded that S. nocturna, which is based on cultivated material, correctly matches its current application. Silene reflexa is a heterotypic synonym of S. nocturna subsp. capraria. Finally, the name S. mutabilis is applicable to the taxon currently known as S. neglecta Ten., and the Linnaean name is therefore the earliest name for this species.
