Abstract

An elementary derivation of the relationship, I ∼ φ 2 R 2, between the superlattice LEED intensity, I, the long-range order parameter, φ, and the average domain size, R, is presented. This relationship is correct for the twofold degenerate ordering provided that the average domain size is lower than the coherence LEED length. The kinetics of domain growth in the p(2 × 1)- O/ W(112) system is discussed.
