Abstract

Miracle et al. (ibid., vol.24, p.372, 1979) proposed a new method for the computation of the response of scintillation camera collimators with parallel holes, taking into account the septal penetration. In this note an attempt is made to improve the accuracy of the numerical computation. In the results given by Miracle et al. for the average point spread function, some discontinuities or peaks on the curve appeared. The cause of these peaks and the way to eliminate them are studied. Finally, the well established use of the modulation transfer function to describe the image quality of the scintillation camera is employed to study the influence of the discontinuities of the PSF on the computation accuracy of the MTF.
