Abstract

The two-centre shell model, used within the Strutinsky macro-microscopic method, is a valid prescription for calculating adiabatic or diabatic potential energy surfaces. It is shown, however, that this model does not contain the appropriate -nucleus structure effects, very much required for collisions between light nuclei. A possible way to incorporate such effects is suggested.
