Abstract
We consider the quadratic exponential sumsfD(α)=∑d⩽D|∑P/d<x⩽2P/de(d2x2α)|. It is established that in some average sense, one has fD(α)≪P1/2+εD3/4. As applications, we improve two results concerning ternary problems in additive prime number theory.
