Abstract
This paper compares syllabic rate between two language speakers, English and Korean, in order to propose a method to improve the accuracy in Korean pronunciation of English speakers when speaking or reading Korean. The Korean language has been proved beneficial particularly in transcribing a variety of sounds found in other languages close to its original sounds. Foreigners, however, especially native English speakers who are familiar with the stress-timed rhythm of their own language, need to practice hard vocalizing its sounds in syllable-timed rhythm to speak Korean proficiently and accurately. From comparative analysis conducted for this study on the syllabic rate between Korean and English, the study shows that English speakers need to pronounce Korean more slowly since their syllabic rate is 1.39 times fast when compared to the speed of Koreans speaking their native language.
