Abstract

Spinodal decomposition in a Co-rich binder phase of a Ti(C, N)-WC-Co cermet has been studied. Thermodynamic calculations of the Co-W system predict a miscibility gap between a paramagnetic and a ferromagnetic face-centred cubic-phase at the Curie temperature. For the first time these predictions were confirmed with atom probe measurements of the binder phase.
