Abstract

A new species, Eustomias mikhailini sp. nova, close to E. macrura was described. It is proposed to restore the Urostomias subgenus from the synonymy of the Spilostomias subgenus. An identification key for the subgenera of the genus Eustomias with a high number of rays of the pectoral fin and for the species of the subgenus Urostomias is presented. A specimen of Eustomias gr. melanostigma, which combines the features of different species of this group in its structure of the chin barbel, was described, which raises doubts about the validity of the isolation of E. melanonema and E. melanostigmoides. New occurrences of rare Leptostomias cf. bilobatus and Photonectes xenopogon species, first discovered in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, were reported; detailed morphological descriptions of specimens are given; the limits of variability of diagnostically valuable characters are specified.
