Abstract

The relevance of the topic is due to the need for studying modern means of linguistic impact, including manipulation, which is a part of today’s Mass Media sphere. High axiological potential of lexical units, which is one of the most powerful means of linguistic impact, deserves special attention of language experts. Axiological aspect of lexical units can be detected in different language levels (lexical and semantic, textual) with the use of various research linguistic methods. The article provides an overview of theoretical basis for axiological analysis of lexical units in Mass Media texts in the modern English language. Besides, the text seeks to highlight several techniques for lexical axiological analysis, such as inherent and adherent evaluation, as well as combined evaluation of lexical units within the Mass Media text. As a result of the analysis, high axiological potential of lexical units in military and political sphere was revealed, including combined lexical units with adjectives as an evaluative component. The authors identified cases of combined evaluation within the Mass Media text as a sign of textual intentionality for making a linguistic impact on a reader.
