Abstract

Three species of Pseudofrenelopsis Nathorst emend. Watson are revised and/or described from the Cretaceous of China based on light and scanning electron microscopical studies on some newly obtained specimens as well as the original material: P. heishanensis Zhou, sp. nov.; P. dalataensis (Chow et Tsao) Cao ex Zhou, comb. nov.; P. papillosa (Chow et Tsao) Cao ex Zhou, comb. nov. Both P. dalatzensis and P. heishanensis have a restricted distribution and only vegetative shoots were found. P. papillosa is rather common and better known. It was described under different names because the cuticles vary considerably. The associated male cone is imperfectly preserved and yields few pollen grains. Up to the present, there is no authentic record of the Euramerican species P. parceramosa in China. A summary of the occurrences and distribution of cheirolepidiaceous megafossils in China is also given.
