Abstract

The authors discuss the problems of 3D motion and shape recovery from underwater images. They exploit radiometric and geometric cues in extracting various information for the construction of high-resolution elevation maps, and for efficient compression and accurate reconstruction of video imagery. They demonstrate selected significant issues in the analysis and interpretation of underwater imagery, including some that are currently investigated based on more general physics-based image models. They present results from experiment with images of underwater scenes.
