Abstract

The planewave response of an axially excited slab made of an absorbing dielectric thin-film helicoidal bianisotropic medium (TFHBM) is examined. A three-zone classification scheme for non-absorbing TFHBMs collapses into a two-zone classification scheme for absorbing TFHBMs, one of the two zones being unphysical. The effect of absorption on circular Bragg reflection is brought out, as also are the incidence-polarization-state-dependent characteristics of an absorption suppression phenomenon and the Borrmann effect, in absorbing TFHBM slabs.
