Abstract

Uprisings, battles, and wars define patriotism and nationalism, whether it is the Mughals conquering India or the assertion and spread of British colonial control in India. When a group of people living in a geographical location wants to be free, self-reliant, and self-sufficient, the discussions about patriotism and nationalism seem insignificant. Despite the fact that there is no universal definition of patriotism and nationalism, Gramschi's assertion of power at numerous levels gives the government apparatus (Althusser) the right to create and designate the history of a country or a nation. The annals of Indian patriotism have been marginalised, subordinated not just by the Moghuls but also by the British, problematizing historiography of patriotism and nationalism in pre-British India. In this context, the article revisits patriotism and nationalism in Shree Aurobindo’s Baji Prabhou.
