Abstract
Newtonian gravity is inadequate in accounting for the observed perihelion procession of Mercury around the Sun. Bagge (1981) and (1986) modified the equation of Newtonian gravity by replacing the rest mass m0 of Mercury by the so-called relativistic mass m(v) ( = m0/(1 - beta 2)1/2) and obtained the following equation of motion: (d/dt)(mo nu )/(1 - beta 2)1/2 = -((GMm0)/(r2(1 - beta2)1/2)r. The author states that this equation is false.
