Abstract
Background: Progressive Gogi (word-meaning) aphasia is a Japanese manifestation of semantic dementia. Reading and writing impairments are similar to those in Western countries. Surface dyslexia and lexical agraphia (selective reading or writing impairment for irregular or exceptional words) are the cardinal features. We previously reported that On-reading preceded and Kun-reading was not recalled in reading of a single kanji character in a patient with semantic dementia.
