Abstract

Acid precipitation is a widespread phenomenon in SE Poland. However, the processes of acid formation and neutralization appear to be very complex. No correlation could be detected between the increase in sulphate and the decrease in pH of precipitation. The pH values of precipitation in city-industrial areas are higher than those in rural areas. On the other hand total acidity is significantly higher in the vicinity of emission sources.
