Abstract

Traditional pedagogic and andragogic methods alone do not effectively meet the learning needs of the pre-service and in-service mix of students who populate MPA programs. The author briefly describes traditional pedagogic and andragogic methods, and argues that an “interactive” approach, combining elements of andragogy and pedagogy, is appropriate for both pre-service and in-service students in most courses in the curriculum. This interactive approach can be implemented through methods such as collaboration, experiential learning, case studies, and innovative exercises. The author also stresses the need to evaluate such changes in teaching methods.
