Abstract

The paper provides a brief discussion of the processes that accompany an indenter penetration into an elastic-plastic body during hardness tests. The causes of deterioration of test results, including friction between the surfaces in contact, are studied. A method is put forward for assessing the efficiency of various lubricants by using appropriate instruments. The experimental results and some concepts of improving reliability of hardness measurement methods are presented.
