Abstract

The study is devoted to assessing the stability of homogeneous soil slopes. The existing methods for calculating stability are analyzed, based on the assumption that the ultimate shear resistance is achieved only on the sliding surface; they are recommended in regulatory documents and are widely used in practice. A method for determining the parameters of a circular-cylindrical sliding surface corresponding to the minimum value of the stability coefficient was developed. The stability of soil slopes is estimated and the results are compared with the results obtained by various calculation methods of the engineering approach. The advantages of the method and the existing areas, which provide a minimum of the stability coefficient lying outside the selected area when applied by traditional methods are shown.
