Abstract

Following his attendance of the congress of the “Ordo Templi Orientis” in Ascona in 1917, Hugo Ball describes occultism in positive terms as a non-dogmatic and humane way of advocating a less materialistic concept of life. Ball links the “fine aims” of the Ordo Templi Orientis to modern experimental dance as represented by Rudolf von Laban and Mary Wigman. Ball also praises the performances of Raya Belensson and Sophie Täuber.
