Abstract

In this paper, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the fully-developed turbulent secondary flow of a Newtonian fluid in a straight tube, under the influence of a conservative body force. Under special conditions, we show that in the absence of a body force, we can obtain a sufficient condition for turbulent secondary flow in terms of the transverse normal stress differences associated with the Reynolds stress and the transverse shear component of the Reynolds stress.
