Abstract
The use of narrow-band FM noise is suggested for application in experimental studies of masking. It is free of intensity fluctuations and is perceived by a listener to be free of the fluctuations characteristic of narrow-band Gaussian noise. Some of the properties of this noise are discussed, along with a brief description of how it may easily be generated.
