Abstract

More precise and supplementary notions of a number of major meteorological phenomena with brief explanations, obtained basing on recent results of complex investigations of atmosphere which differ from available definitions, are given. The atmospheric front and the air mass, the tropical cyclone, the deformation of atmospheric ozone field by the jet stream, the tropopause, the sudden stratospheric warming, the ozone hole in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect, the effect of the multiple scattering of ultraviolet radiation in the atmosphere are referred, in particular, to these notions. The conclusion on the necessity of these more precise definitions and supplements, without which the correct and practical use of the meteorological science is impossible, is made.
