Abstract

The integral of power withdrawn from the power source during a single-axis maneuver is minimized, taking into consideration the characteristics of the power conditioning equipment, as well as the servomotor itself. Two slightly different models are used for the power amplifier, one having an infinite input impedance, the other having a finite input impedance. It is shown, using the maximum principle, that the former model results in a trivalued control and that the latter model results in a control that may operate fully on, fully off, or in a continuous mode. It is further shown that a simple energy criterion with unspecified maneuver time results in e-optiinal control for all trajectories that include a point of zero velocity not the origin. Two criteria circumventing this difficulty are considered.
