Abstract

In this paper, the authors present a stochastic, discontinuous modeling framework that is designed for abstracting human control strategies and is based on hidden Markov models (HMM). A real-time driving simulator is developed for investigating human control strategies. The shortcomings of a typical continuous modeling approach for modeling discontinuous human control strategies are discussed. The HMM-based method is shown to demonstrate greater fidelity to the human training data.
