Abstract

When I crossed over the Pacific Ocean back in 1950 on the S.S. President Wilson, it took me eleven days. Now we can fly over the same ocean in nine hours by jet airplane. This means that the globe we live in is now shrinking due to the rapid development of facilities of communication and transportation. An event or tendency which occurs in one comer of the world immediately affects all other parts of the world. For example, the recent raise of the price of oil by OPEC has had serious effects on world economy. Thus, we realize that the global community of mankind is now a reality. Furthermore, on this ever-shrinking globe different ethnic groups and nations with different cultural, religious traditions, and idealogies do exist side by side. In this situation, if all humanity is to live together in harmony, the only alternative nations can take is to solve international problems by dialogue and certainly not by violence. I think this is the general consensus of world opinions.
