Abstract

Hale et al., have written a very interesting paper showing the impressive results that can be obtained when diving waves are used to image the flanks of salt domes. Unfortunately, they give an erroneous description of the diving wave in the Fourier domain [equation (1) in their paper]. In equation (1) they state that the migrated image is the contribution of the conventionally reflected wave and a second term which represents the contribution of the turning wave [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] (I have replaced their k with ωp in the integrand). They state that the diving wave has a frequency‐independent π/2 phase shift. That statement is incorrect.
