Abstract

AbstractThe problem of generation of computational grids for numerical models of atmosphere and ocean dynamics is considered. Conformal mappings of spherical domains onto a plane are used to construct structured regular horizontal grids with the physical resolution as close to uniform as possible. The mappings with minimum distortion properties are chosen for domains of different extensions and locations on Earth’s surface and the obtained results for practical large-scale spherical regions are compared with the theoretical evaluations for the model domains.Keywordsatmosphere/ocean modelingnumerical schemesgrid generation
