Abstract

It has been observed among all people, all over the world, and for quite some time now, that the habit of reading, the capabilities of understanding what is being read and, that of expressing what is being understood, through speech, writing and the other available and emerging media, are not evolving along desired lines [Bamberger 1975; Shukla 2010]. Paradoxically, this is happening at a time when billions of digital texts of various levels, are available on a large number of disciplines, in many languages of the world, just a click of the mouse away, for those who can afford it [Michel 2011]; and some efforts are already underway to bring these resources within the reach of even those who cannot afford the same owing to their financial, cultural and/or technological lags [Mitra 2000 and 2015].
