Abstract
A theoretical expression, derived by the present authors, for the temperature dependent free polaron absorption is compared with existing experimental data for BaTiO 3, TiO 2, SrTiO 3 and KTaO 3. Although the Fröhlich polaron model does not allow for a detailed quantitative explanation of the data, we suggest that the main absorption peak is due to the transition from the groundstate to a relaxed excited state of the polaron.
