Abstract
A study is made of the electromagnetic cavity mode structure of a cylindrical tank containing a cylindrical damper membrane. Maxwell's equations for the most general mode of a cylindrical tank is considered and reduced to the problem of solving a single transcendental equation written in terms of the Bessel function of the first and second kind. This equation is solved numerically for some representative damped cavities yielding modal frequencies and damping rates.
