Abstract
This article deals with modern comprehension of category of state words (CSW) development in synchrony and di-achrony. In scientific linguistics, higher education and school educational materials on the Russian language there are no terminolog-ical uniformity and consistency about classification of the CSW semantics-grammatical nature, as well as their stable status among other words classes. Due to free choice of author's programs and textbooks this situation has negative effect on school linguodidac-tics and teaching results in all-Russian scale. This article presents general history-linguistic comment on gradual lexicalization and grammaticalization of the definite struc-ture nouns with semantics of modality, condition and attitudinality in predicate function. Special attention is paid to off-system lexi-cal units LET (НАДО), MUST NOT (НЕЛЬЗЯ), IT IS A PITY (ЖАЛЬ). History-linguistic researches and lexicography demonstrate that CSW forming resulted from long-term systematic historical changes in the process of nouns, pronouns, and verbs interaction. Centuries-old evolution process is still active now, forming the unique east-Slavic (mainly Russian!) language phenomenon CSW. The article is addressed to teachers of philologists to-be.
