Abstract

LANs and MANs have been proposed to be built with dual-bus networks and several medium access control (MAC) schemes have been developed for dual-bus networks, e.g., DQDB, Fasnet, CRMA, and Simple. As a result, the problem of providing various services over dual-bus networks has been drawing considerable attention. We address the issue of guaranteeing the timely delivery of isochronous (real-time) message streams with hard deadlines in dual-bus networks, and propose simple and effective establishment and termination procedures. These establishment and termination procedures can be easily incorporated into the various MAC protocols proposed for dual-bus networks.
