Abstract

Cytofertilizin, a sperm agglutinating factor, was prepared from jelly-free sea urchin eggs. Cytofertilizin acts improving upon membrane formation and cleavage. The fertilization rate is improved by cytofertilizin. The release of cytofertilizin is favored by the presence of calcium. It was observed that the release of cytofertilizin is correlated with morphological changes in the cortex of the egg.
