Abstract
The results of a systematic finite element analyses of creep concentration factors for the equivalent stress, the mean stress, and the equivalent strain at a circumferential weld joint between tubes of similar material are given. The weld joint is modelled by a three layer model—base metal, heat affected zone, weld metal—using experimentally determined constitutive laws. The component is acted on by internal pressure and concurrent axial tensile force (of varying value), the temperature is constant and uniform. The results—dependencies from detailed weld geometry, pipe geometry axial force ratio—are discussed, with the goal of providing understanding of the creep behaviour for design purposes.
